Stoneage Implements at Mariannhill Monastery

by Natalie Rowles, KZN

I am enclosing photos that I’ve just taken of these stone implements in the Mariannhill Monastery Museum, to show the similar sizes of small implements I’ve dug out of my own back yard, which through the years must have been thrown away whilst I was away.

Persons may just pick up a stone and think it is just a stone, but take a good look and see that it could very well have been a stone implement used by our ancestors for cutting their meat, or scraping their tubers clean.

See also some photos of these huge ancients coins dug up about 2 feet below the soil whilst digging for a well, which I’ve taken there too.

Mariannhill Monastery Museum is one place every visitor to Pinetown should go and visit – spend an hour or longer there – it’s is worth the trip!
