The Center For Conservation Education at 9 ALiwal Road, Plumstead offers a host of educational school outings. You can choose from any number of historical, natural or anthropological outings for your children.

Today our children did a morning of school as Victorian school children. Dressing up and role playing the lessons, writing on slates, doing rote learning, object based lessons and more.

The “strict” teacher was in top form making the children write with their right hands, if they were left handed, standing to address the teacher with a “Yes, Sir” and all the other disciplinarian measures from this era.

Breaktime meant playing with stilts, spinning tops, whirr-whirrs and other games after enjoying some Victorian Sponge.

Afterwards they all had the chance to debrief and talk about what they liked and didn’t like as well as do a comparison of schools today.
