Khwa ttu- San Spirit Discovered

San Village

San Village

!Khwa ttu is situated on the West Coast of South Africa. We stayed in the bush camp tents for the night, followed by a guided tour to discover the world of the San people and how they hunted and lived many years ago.

CampsiteThe bush camp offers 5 tents nestled amongst the shrubs and a communal braai area where we could make a fire to cook our meal. As the children ran in and out of the tents and through knee high grass, the adults relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful sounds of nature. A little Cape Robin sat nearby and watched the goings on.

Khwa ttu- San Spirit DiscoveredIn the morning, we were met by 3 San guides who, after a short introduction and explanation about what would take place, escorted us onto a tractor pulled trailer. This was the boys absolute highlight! As we drove to the drop off point, we saw plenty of Eland, Springbok, Bontebok and Zebra.

While our guide explained the differances of the antelope tracks to us, a herd of curious zebra where coming closer to take a good look at us.

Wildlife

We walked on and with a few more stops to explain about using ostrich eggs, how to tell what the animals are doing by looking at their dung and also how traps were set we arrived at a replica traditional San village. Here they explained how community life took place. A lady explained what the woman did. She spoke the beautiful language with lots of clicks and this was translated for us to understand.

This was so amazing, to experience a culture inspired by ancient knowledge and traditional folklore of people who knew our land so well. I really recommend this outing and as it is only an hour and 15 minutes from Cape Town, it is worth the drive for either an outing as we did or even as a day trip.
